Management of Labor Management of Signs/Symptoms of Preterm Labor (PTL) Algorithm This algorithm applies to singleton pregnancies only. Assessment of patient with signs / symptoms of possible PTL. A Assessment includes: *Fetal fibronectin testing. *Pelvic exam. *Sterile speculum exam. *Determine contraction pattern. *Determine fetal well-being. *Cervical length. *Lab tests. Patient and fetus both medically stable? Obstetric / medical consultation as indicated; treat per standard emergency medical and obstetric procedures Critical events: *Cervix 5 plus cm dilated. *pPROM. *Vaginal bleeding. *Chorioamnionitis suspected. Is there a critical event? See Management of Critical Event algorithm Cervix 2-5 cm dilated, less than 80% effaced, contractions 4/20 or 6/60?
